Schluter®

Shower System & DITRA Membranes

The Schluter Shower System is an integrated family of products that together form a fully bonded, watertight assembly for tiled showers. The Schluter-Shower System eliminates the risk of failures due to water and vapor penetration and dramatically reduces total installation time, while the DITRA family of uncoupling membranes prevent cracked tile and grout.

How does it work?

The Schluter System includes a modified polyethylene (PEVA) sheet-applied membrane with a bonding fleece embedded on both sides. The membrane is installed over a sloped base, either a prefabricated EPS foam tray or a mortar bed, and shower drain with integrated bonding flange using thin-set mortar.

How long does it take to set?

Once the membrane, including seams, corners and protrusions, have been completely bonded and therefore waterproofed, the assembly is ready to be tiled. No wait time is required.

What’s the advantage?

The Schluter System creates a completely sealed system. The resulting assembly forms a superb type of moisture management (allowing it to dry completely between uses while eliminating leaks and mold growth).

Can you install it over drywall?

Yes! Once installed over drywall panels, they will be completely protected from the water and vapor in your tiled shower.

How long will it last?

Schluter utilizes high-quality materials in all of their products. They are built to provide long-term waterproofing and you can expect them to last for upwards of fifty years.

DITRA-Heat Floor Warming System

Nothing creates comfort quite like warm flooring underfoot. With Schluter’s electric floor warming system, any room in your home can feel comfortable and luxurious. DITRA-HEAT can be installed under any tile and incorporates Schluter’s uncoupling technology to prevent cracked tiles and grout. The flexibility to run cables wherever heat is desired allows for customized heating zones. And installation is fast and easy with no leveling compounds needed.

How does it work?

DITRA-HEAT utilizes electric heating cables that can be placed wherever heat is desired and provides effective waterproofing and vapor management.

Does it take long to install?

No! Another advantage of using DITRA-HEAT is that there’s no need for self-leveling compounds. This significantly reduces installation time compared to other electric floor warming systems.

What’s the advantage?

Geometric configuration neutralizes movement between the substrate and tile, eliminating the major cause of cracking and delaminating of the tiled surface.

Is it only for tile flooring?

No, DITRA-HEAT works under engineered wood, vinyl, wood plastic composite (WPC), luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), luxury vinyl planks (LVP), stone plastic composite (SPC) tiles and planks, and laminate flooring.

Is it durable?

Mortar structures that function similarly to columns are formed in and between the studs on the surface of the matting. This transfers the load from the tile to the substrate making it extremely durable.

Shelves, Niches & Drains

Schluter makes it possible to install fully waterproof tiled shower shelf/storage spaces, installed within the wall of your shower or tub area, using their prefabricated KERDI-BOARD niches.

Schluter offers niche shelves, corner shelves, wall shelves, and drain grates in a variety of popular finishes including brushed stainless steel, matte black, matte white, stone grey, greige, cream, and bronze.

How do niches work?

Schluter has developed four prefabricated and completely waterproof shower niches that are ready to tile. They are available in four different sizes: 12" x 6", 12" x 12", 12" x 20", & 12" x 28"

Do shelves require special maintenance?

Nope! Simply clean periodically using a mild cleaner, avoiding abrasive cleaners.

Why install niches or shelves?

Niches and shelves provide a proper place to keep your shower accessories neat and organized rather than using bulky organizers or caddies that take up space and can be difficult to keep clean.

Why use a KERDI-DRAIN grate?

The KERDI-DRAIN grate assembly can be seamlessly adjusted to the thickness and layout of the tile or stone covering using the height adjustment collar and lateral adjustment ring. They feature a minimal reveal after installation, and come in various shapes and finishes for a customized design.

Are the shelves actually useful?

Yes! Schluter has designed and tested their shelves for lasting durability with intended use, which includes not only storing toiletries, but installation as footrests for shaving legs well. And they can be installed at any height. (Please note, they are not intended for standing on.)
